Taps and Dies

Taps and Dies create screw threads. Some find use as cutting tools and others form threads. The former cuts or forms the female of a mating pair or nut, while the die cuts or forms the male, or bolt. Tapping is the process of cutting or forming threads. Whilst the die-process is called threading. Both create new threads or repair damaged threads. Made from HSS or hardened carbon steel, the former is much more robust and is suitable for a broader range of materials. These materials can include, steel, cast steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, softwood, and hardwood.
