SDS Plus Drill Bits

SDS Plus Drill Bits are for when jobs don’t require a larger hole or when working close to the edge. A smaller, less powerful drill is preferable when working close to the edge. This is because it reduces the risk of chipping pieces of concrete from an outside edge. This range of products is shorter in length, and is most ideal for lighter duty work and smaller diameter holes. The shank on these bits are 10mm in diameter. These are available to buy from Swiftfix in brands Alpen and Heller, in-store and online.

Benefits of using an SDS shank:

An SDS shank has the advantage of fitting into a simple spring-loaded chuck, so that bits simply push into the chuck without tightening. This makes it especially suitable for hammer drilling with masonry drills in stone and concrete. The bit will not be held solidly in a chuck, but can slide back and forth like a piston. It does not slip during rotation thanks to the non-circular shank cross-section that matches the chuck. An SDS shank drill bit is much more productive than other types, as the hammer of the drill acts to accelerate the bit itself and not the heavy chuck.
