The traditional square head coach screws are being phased out by the hexagon head version in most applications. The old fashioned square head style coach screws have a very nice finished look which is sought after in the heritage trade on historic buildings including churches, historic homes and castles etc.

Often called Lag bolts or Lag screws the tradional coach screws were primarily manufactured in the UK by the Nettlefolds company which had various takeovers an was finally closed in the 1900s.
